My opinion of His Dark Materials is, Pullman wrote the perfect ending...but then he just kept on writing. D: Reminds me of a Futurama quote:

Leela: "Fry, remember I when I told you about always ending your stories a sentence earlier?"

It's been a while since I read "His Dark Materials", so I only remember having my heart ripped out of my ribcage, ha ha ha! It will move up my re-read this for sure.

Ugh "Futurama", I love you so much!

I might have legitimately teared up when I had to delete Futurama from the DVR box. D: Need Futurama icons, will settle for Picard being pissed the show is gone again.

I haven't read HDM since before the ill-fated movie came out, but I remember reading and thinking, "Wow, for such a cynical series, this is a really happy and good ending! It's perfect!....Why are there still so many pages left?" And my face steadily went from :D to D:<. The ending is actually why I haven't bothered to re-read the trilogy, though I have read and enjoyed the companion book Lyra's Oxford.

Ha ha ha! Angry!Picard is always a winner!

It's probably been about the same amount of time for me. I haven't read "Lyra's Oxford", mostly because I kinda forgot about it amidst all the other books that were out there! I kinda really want to re-read it now, to see if I hate the ending now! I remember being really angry and gutted after finishing the books, but I put it down to teen angst, ha ha ha!

A lot of people anger at the ending, so maybe not teen angst!

I quite liked Lyra's Oxford. :D It was nice to see an older, more mature Lyra, but one who hasn't stopped having adventures. And the extra bits that come with the story, like a map of Oxford and advertisements from Lyra's world, are really nice touches. It's fairly short, so you can read through it in no time.

Maybe not! I can understand that anger!

I shall have to pick it up! I enjoy getting little snapshots of characters lives after the main narrative. It makes them more real, you know?

It really does! I'd have liked to see more about Will post-story.

Me too! I wanted to know about his life afterwards.

Funnily enough, I went home and thought "hey, I'll pick up my copies of "The Subtle Knife" and "The Amber Spyglass!" " only to go home and remember that I have never actually owned the 2nd and 3rd books! Idiot.

Then, in another stroke of good luck, I went into a charity shop on my lunch break and found "The Amber Spyglass" (with the Scholastic cover that I needed) for 99p. RESULT.
