Date: 2014-09-13 09:37 pm (UTC)I haven't read HDM since before the ill-fated movie came out, but I remember reading and thinking, "Wow, for such a cynical series, this is a really happy and good ending! It's perfect!....Why are there still so many pages left?" And my face steadily went from :D to D:<. The ending is actually why I haven't bothered to re-read the trilogy, though I have read and enjoyed the companion book Lyra's Oxford.

Date: 2014-09-15 09:16 pm (UTC)It's probably been about the same amount of time for me. I haven't read "Lyra's Oxford", mostly because I kinda forgot about it amidst all the other books that were out there! I kinda really want to re-read it now, to see if I hate the ending now! I remember being really angry and gutted after finishing the books, but I put it down to teen angst, ha ha ha!

Date: 2014-09-15 09:26 pm (UTC)I quite liked Lyra's Oxford. :D It was nice to see an older, more mature Lyra, but one who hasn't stopped having adventures. And the extra bits that come with the story, like a map of Oxford and advertisements from Lyra's world, are really nice touches. It's fairly short, so you can read through it in no time.

Date: 2014-09-24 06:52 pm (UTC)Funnily enough, I went home and thought "hey, I'll pick up my copies of "The Subtle Knife" and "The Amber Spyglass!" " only to go home and remember that I have never actually owned the 2nd and 3rd books! Idiot.
Then, in another stroke of good luck, I went into a charity shop on my lunch break and found "The Amber Spyglass" (with the Scholastic cover that I needed) for 99p. RESULT.
