OK. I have a 9am lecture and I have a book to have read by 11am tomorrow morning but I'm not too bothered. Why? Because I have just had the most fucking amazing night~!
A group of us on the Japanese course all got together and decided to go out for dinner, y'know, get to know each other and try Japanese food and just bond as a group. So the 16 of us (there's actually about 35 but not every knew or could make it) all met at the uni step (where it was RAINING!) and walked into Leeds to Little Tokyo.
Oh Gods, it was so amazing and we all chatted and gossiped and got to know each other even before we got into the restaurant. We get there and we all do the usual, y'know, shout abuse, slag each other off, ask questions about each other and what's nice to eat.
We all get sake (and at our table we had, like, a bottle each. Yum yum) and I ask this guy Andy what's good to eat (being a Japanese food virgin and all) and he recommends the Chicken Katsu Bento Box and I had Dim Sum Sui Mai as well and we had Japanese profiteroles and fortune cookies after. It was just amazing. And I start chatting to Andy (well, we slagged each other off and keep cracking up laughing after making sly sexual digs at each other) and...he's fun! And he and his mate Marcus (who's in intermediate Japanese) tell me they're gonna bully me for the next 4 years because I'm clueless.
So we got the bill (£200 - holy FUCK! Ha ha ha!) and we all paid and left, walking one girl down to the nearby Corn Market. Marcus and Hayden (another Japanese newbie) and Andy all start slagging each other off and start playing 'catch' with this Alien Baby toy thing and then start playing Cricket. Except Andy got to hit it (we were playing with umbrellas. On the main street) and the top of the umbrella just goes flying towards us. Oh it was hilarious! We all just cracked up.
Then, girl goes so we all decide to head back to the Union for a drink before tomorrow's class. So I'm walking up and Andy comes up, links my arm and says 'Alright pickle?'. We start chatting - he tells me to tell him about myself. So I tell him the boring stuff and we start talking more and more during the walk back up to uni (it's about 15-20 minutes) and he asks about my love life. 'Em....' I say. He catches this and we talk about Matt. Honestly. And he compliments me - telling me that I'm a good-looking girl and, even though he doesn't know me very well, I seem to be great fun and a laugh and...all these wonderful things.
And we talk about relationships. And we're so honest about it. Even he said 'I don't know why I'm telling you all this. Normally I wouldn't but...I mean because I'm slightly intoxicated or...well, I get the feeling I can trust you.' So we talk. And we talk. And we make extremely flirty comments to each other and he tells me that if he wasn't taken, he'd go for me. I tell him that's a lovely, sweet thing to say and he tells me it's true.
So I explain about Matt and I and how I feel that...well, the way he treats me...I mean, I must deserve it, right? And he tells me not to think like that and he shouldn't make me feel like that.
But...He was just wonderful. I felt so comfortable and...at ease. That's it. At ease. So we all go to the Union and before we go in, he grabs me and says 'Marcus and I telling you that we're going to bully you for the next four years is actually the biggest compliment we could give you. Think about that.'
But we sat drinking in the Old Bar from about 9 until 12:15 or so. And there was Karaoke on and we joined in and sang and mocked and then we played pool. And I just felt so content. Even though I'm freaking out about Japanese and not knowing anything and being miles behind everyone else and not being smart enough to do this, I felt OK around them. I felt like...like me.
So...I mean, I don't really have much more to say. Well, nothing that I want to say.
Just...I'm happy.
Better get to reading "Vathek" ne?
