Hello my lovelies!

I'm needing some help regarding questions as I'm not much of a cosplayer! What would you consider the most popular cosplay costumes that people would buy? I would assume Naruto and Bleach costumes? But what else?

It'd be silly to deny that superhero costumes would also be a huge market, but would you be more inclined to buy a costume for a Superhero movie that is due to come out or the costume of a slightly less mainstream character? (For example, would you be likely to choose a Jean Grey costume or a Miss Marvel costume?)

Would you, as a consumer, be more inclined to buy wigs or costumes? My personal logic would dictate that wigs would a more crucial purchase than a costume, but would you agree with that?

All this is market research for my new role in Fancy Dress Queen :) So please help!

Love love love ♥

Crap, I'm so bad at this, because I mostly take interest in the original character costumes and more obscure ones you don't see much. What's different sticks out!

At cons, I'm still seeing a lot of Ouran costumes to go with Naruto and Bleach (and for whatever reason, Bleach costumes had a recent re-surge in popularity at this year's Nekocon--tons of shinigami walking around). A lot of costumes from the newer Gundam serials, Gundam SEED and up. Not so much classic Gundam (*sob, sniff*).

Oh, and Doctor Who. A lot of Doctor Who costumes....Mostly Four and Ten, not too many other characters from the series.

For superheroes, I mostly see people cosplaying as whoever was in the recent big movies. Tons of Iron Man and Watchmen lately, especially suited-up Tony Stark and Rorshach.

And Harry Potter costumes are still very much in vogue, though more people seem to just be "random Hogwarts students from their favourite House" than specific characters.

I'm anticipating a big jump in Tron costumes soon. :3

I actually haven't seen many Ouran costumes at conventions recently, mostly since Hetalia has taken over that genre. Hetalia was huge this year, though the trend might have passed. If you're looking at long-running classics, I would throw One Piece in with Naruto and Bleach.

I'd agree that wigs are actually going to attract more cosplayers than full costumes. A lot of cosplayers want to make their own costumes, but good-quality wigs (like the types from cyperous) are rare/impossible to come by in non-Asian countries, and they are expen$$$$$ive. I would definitely spend more money on a wig that I can style myself, based on color, stylability and fiber, than pre-made costumes.

I'd also like to see more costume variety in things that are difficult to make: Shoes, boots, accessories, prosthetics, etc. Also bodysuits that are easy to customize. But that is maybe because I have seamster friends and am a prop maker myself...
