How about a brief introduction for yourself?
Hi! I'm Kathryn. I am undoubtably fascinating and wonderful and all shall love me and despair. I am also prone to lying. ...Just a bit though
Fabulous! And what got you into fanfiction to begin with?
Zelda! And I remember reading other people's fanfic (even our beloveddarthzal's work!) on htloz.com and emailing people about their work to tell them how much I liked it. And then would get spin-off ideas from their works - roads not taken and such and began to write. Although for years it was an awful lot of self-insert Mary Sue type fanfic! Oh the horror!
I see, so what kind of fanfiction do you like to write?
I like to write things that never happened. Or the road's not taken. So I guess I like to write an awful lot of AU stuff? Although that feels wrong when I write it. I like to take small instances in writing, little asides and details that are never expanded upon and to play with them or to explore ways of life.
Angst. I do enjoy writing angst or emotional stuff - thought processes or conversations with generally completely unsubtle symbols and double-meanings.
Do you find writing easy? Hard? What are the most difficult aspects of writing you struggle with?
Writing is hard! I can't just sit down and write unless I am completely blind-sided by an idea. Or I will have a few pieces of a work solid or at least retaining form in my head but all the other pieces of it just won't come together. So I'm not good at finishing fics a lot.
Although when I sit down and something's struck me and I'm in right headspace, there is nothing easier than writing. It's almost easier than breathing
Write a few sentences or so of your favorite pairing or character.

The sweat pours of every single one of them but after nearly a decade of performing and interviews, it's nothing they aren't used to. Although this is hardly their normal setting. They're watching a band perform. Or at least they were until Aiba produced a number of DayGlo sticks and bracelets from...somewhere. Nobody questioned where from because that would have meant looking at Aiba's outfit which was practically non-existant and the part of it that did exist did not leave a lot to the imagination. Not that any of them minded. Jun had muttered something as they had their hands stamped about how Aiba always looked best with as few clothes as possible and the blush that had spread over first Sho, then Ohno's cheeks told him how much they agreed.
The music was loud and pulsed through them - the frantic drums sinking into their bones and the bass rumbling into their veins, twining with the operatic vocals that caused Ohno to stand and stare in awe that seared up their arteries and coursed through their brain until they felt like they were part of the music and could not separate where the music ended and their flesh began. But it didn't matter - distinctions blurred until Nino couldn't tell whether the heavy heartbeats he heard were his or Sho's and Sho could feel nothing except the glide of flesh against his own and they were like an ocean moving and pulsing together, surging like a sea of lights and neon glows and the constant pull-and-give of each other that was fluid because they knew each other - they were together like droplets of water forming a raincloud and as powerful as a storm in the middle of the ocean and eternal like the sky.
...where THE FUCK DID THAT COME FROM. Oh Matt Bellamy. I adore you! (although "Cornflake Girl" is playing now. WIN)
Are there any fanfiction clichés or trends you're sick of or just can't stand?
I'm not fond of pet names in fanfic. I mean with Arashi and stuff, that's canon. I can cope with that. Things like, in Harry Potter, Remus being called "Rem" or "Remi" - Sirius being "Sirius" or "Star". That will make me cringe unless it is intentional mockery. Then we all good!
The dumbing down of characters is another peeve of mine - there are very few stupid characters out there people. There are very few stupid people out there, actually. People are stupid regarding things but almost everyone has some area of expertise or wisdom or wit or intelligence. Like Relena! She was a stupid girl at the start of Gundam Wing and I am not dying about the character but she grew up and matured and was the Queen of the fucking World at one point. She is not an idiot. Do not treat her like one.
And, y'know, the general stuff. Overly-long paragraphs or the LACK OF PARAGRAPHS WHATSOEVER, incorrect punctuation, grammatical errors, etc. Don't look at me that way. All those are practically fanfiction cliches now - you know it to be true.
Are you guilty of any fanfiction clichés you hate? Or any other ones?
Damn right I am! The first thing I ever finished writing was a Gundam Wing song-fic. I still have two massive multi-chaptered stories - one Zelda and one Gundam Wing - with shameless Mary-Sueing all over the shop. And of course the boys were in love with me. Oh the shame! :D
What was the first fandom you wrote for, and do you still like/participate in it?
I was writing a lot around the same time but I'm pretty certain it was the Legend of Zelda. I don't really write in it - I don't think I even really wrote in it properly although I have lots of bits and pieces on my laptop back home, ideas and half-written stories. Tragic!
I still love Zelda a lot and still have a bunch of inspiration for it! Maybe I'll actually get around to working in it now when I got home and have access to all my old stuff, ha ha ha ha!
Name your OTPs or most frequently written pairings/characters and explain what it is about them that you love to write.
OTPs is a dangerous road for me to walk down! So! Most frequently written pairings/characters!
Remus/Sirius, HP
The pairing that has everything! Angst, betrayal, growing up together, the innate knowing each other even after 12 years apart and able to come back together with a simple sentence and a look. It's boys being boys and the awkardness of youth entangled with the insidious external pressure of a war brewing over their heads and doing anything for each other and suspicion and breaking apart but not actually being broken when you're together. Still love Wolfstar after all this time. Also, probably has helped that I haven't read "Deathly Hollows" yet, ha ha ha :D
Arashi/Arashi, (RPS)
It's...sort of the same as Remus/Sirius, I guess! It's growing up together and the different dynamics; how Nino/Jun works, the way Aiba and Ohno interact, what Sho knows about Nino, how Ohno is protected by the others, how Aiba is adored and how Nino and Jun bitch at each other, being pissy drama queens. It's how they are all themselves and products of nearly a decade with each other and still so much fun and how much they obviously care about each other. Just lots of love there!
...Those who Waltz, The Final Waltz trilogy
Waltz is something I haven't posted a lot of my little tidbits from but it falls into the category I mentioned above about Roads Not Taken so there are things like a Sallas/Ruu AU regarding a 'what if...' situation I drew, a fucked up resurrection fic for Cerios, Sal/Eliot interaction centered around indulgence and smoking and lots of noir stuff, the ideasacchifox gave me with the prompt "Secret Garden" that feels like a tri-partite fic focusing on women and flowers and. Yeah - tons to explore there. I am a hopeless fangirl.
What would you call your writing “style”?
I guesss...stream of consciousness? I dunno. Help!
Do you read other people’s fanfic? If so, what do you find yourself reading the most?
Love reading fanfics! Everything about them but I do have a core bunch of people's stuff I read now because I love their styles or the way they deal with an idea or the pairings they write. I also love reading Remixes of fics because that fits into my Roads Not Taken kink or alternative perception. Which is AWESOME.
Crossovers! Love crossover fic. Especially sincemusesfool did a fantastic one involving Sirius and Firefly that was in character and tragic and wonderful and...just heart-stoppingly good.
I also love reading kink!fics or porn. I admit it! The internet is for porn but fandom is for kink! :D
Name one thing you’d LOVE to write, but have been too afraid or shy to do.
TONS OF THINGS. I actually have lists of writing I'd love to do but I am too afraid to do it. :( FAIL.
Although I still toy in my brain about with the pyro!Harry burning down 12 GP fic or the many crossover fics (Death in Saiyuki/Death in South Park) or. Anything :( Fail.
Do you have trouble taking criticism? Or worse yet, do you have the dreaded bloated ego?
I'm pretty good about taking criticisms or at least explaning why I did something the way I did. And I am shockingly shy and paranoid about writing fic so I do not post it a lot or even write it a lot.
When you write, is there anything that helps? Music? Quiet room?
I need music. Good fucking God, I have realised this last week how badly I need to listen to music to write anything I'm even VAGUELY happy with. Of course, here I am with no music. CD players not reading my CDs, Zen not charging, no sound on this computer. GOD IS BULLYING ME!

Music. Definitely inspired a fucking ton by music and lyrics or the images that they paint in my head.
People! People prompting me is always awesome because I work harder on those ideas (hence why half of them never get seen by you, ha ha ha ha). Also my friends or stories that I've been told. Because my friends have Weird Shit lives.

OMFG, inorite? I remember reading her stuff on htloz.com and then absolutely happily freaking out when she joined ZQL not long after. There were other Zeldataku who I knew of before they joined, but you guys are all so fucking talented, I can't name names much anymore. I remember Zal because she was the first one I recognized from elsewhere, back when being published on a site that wasn't your own was still really cool. |D
Also! This post doth remindeth me-eth. You should e-mail me the list of things I'm supposed to be getting to you! I can't remember what you have and what you need. I can just think of random things where we all said "Klena should see this!" Like the Will Ferrell Landlord video, "Sean Connery" does The Rapist, and Dead Fantasy, as well as the random assortments of shit I have on my hard drive.
