Entry 299! Last one before Saturday! XDDD
OMFG!
waxrose OMFG! I got your card today! We WILL have a proper Christmas together. With sheep. And OMG, you are so pretty! *pokes* *pokes again* XDDDD And
tro I got your card last week but LJ freaked out about your name. I LOVE IT! Big kisses to both of you~~~!!!!!
I also got cards from people in work. Huh. That's a bit mad. Got one from Nicki, one of the managers, and Celene (my daddy! XDDD) which was awesome. There's meant to be an unofficial staff do tonight but...I'm not sure to go or not. I'm still not entirely comfortable with myself in work, if that makes sense. Also there's karoke. Hmmmmm. Maybe I'm drag Jenni down so we can catch up and yet not just be there.
My wages should be in today. Yay! Need to see how rich I am.
Since Sunday I've worked 40 hours. And I'm meant to working 8 more on Saturday. Uh no. But Mary or Brian may be sorting it for me. Hopefully.
Need to go Christmas shopping. Oh yes. I do. Wages = Christmas presents. *nods*
Now, a bit of a music ramble. (my wrist is sore again, owie. Bad weather) ((Hahahaha, very long!))
I like Coldplay. I am perhaps one of the only ones who do amongst my circle of friends - they argue that Coldplay is too depressing and 'kill yourself' music, which is perhaps the fault of the UK T.V. stations for using 'The Scientist" for any type of heartbreaking!scene or death!scene or break-up!scene that goes around. (BTW, thank you "Lost" for using Damien Rice and 'Delicate' during the Sun/Jin drama. Awesome - I approve!) Therefore, Coldplay = "The Scientist" = death, depression, loss.
I DO NOT AGREE. I used to but then my dad got a copy of "A Rush of Blood To The Head" from some random guy in work and said "Here you. Have it." So I did and then finally listened to it. And it twisted my heart within me. I fell in love with it almost instantly. 'God Put A Smile Upon Your Face' is about love. It's about a relationship where people are confused but there's love there and they care but there's confusion about boundaries and how much they deserve - or want - the relationship. And even if that's depressing, they keep being reminded that "God put a smile upon a face".
And then, on the "Rush of Blood" album is A Warning Sign. It's one of the only songs that can make me cry almost every time I listen to it. But not just because it's heartbreaking - because it's about genuine and painful and trying to resolve pain. (Side fandom note - A Warning Sign is also one of my main Remus/Sirius ship songs.) And it soars and it falls and Chris Martin's voice hovers and quivers and forces the words from somewhere deep.
A warning sign
You came back to haunt me and I realised
That you were an island and I passed you by
When you were an island to discover
Come on in
I've got to tell you what a state I'm in
I've got to tell you in my loudest tones
That I started looking for a warning sign
When the truth is
I miss you
Yeah the truth is
That I miss you so
And I'm tired
I should not have let you go
See? Then there's the album's title track - 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head'. Which is dark. Listen to it, it's fucking black from the hints of things in there. (Side fandom note 2: This is my 12 G.P place is burning song - Pyro!Harry!) It's twisted and broken and destructive but it's cleansing and trying to help resolve conflict, even if it's in the wrong way:
Because I'm gonna buy this place and see it burn
Do back the things it did to you in return
He said I'm gonna buy a gun and start a war
If you can tell me something worth fighting for
He said "I'm gonna buy this place and see it go
Stand here beside my baby, watch the orange glow
Some will laugh and some just sit and cry
But you just sit down there and you wonder why
I can't write anymore on Rush of Blood because now I'm itching to listen to it. Instead I'm listening to 'Talk on VH1 website now. Which is the reason for my rant. Finally.
'Parachutes', as an album, means something to me but not in the way 'Rush of Blood' does. Sure 'Yellow' is an amazing love song - I will never deny that - and 'Trouble' is a fantastic song about forgiveness and being trapped by situation and circumstance and, yeah, 'Spies', 'Shiver' and 'Sparks' make my heart stop with their cautionary tales about suspicion destroying love and love that remains after relationships and driving love away. But there's not the transcendent quality that's there in "Rush of Blood"
Then X&Y came out. And I still haven't heard the album, only the single's released. But it was disappointed. 'Speed of Sound is OK - I can listen to it but not over and over. And 'Fix You never really...grabbed me. So I've been listening to old Coldplay and wondering why I've not been seized by the new album.
And then I heard 'Talk'. And I fell in love again. Straight away - head first. Because the transcendent sound is back. And the video is so bizarre and funny and it's so other-wordly.
It's about trying to communicate and being scared and trying to move on by dealing with the fear. It's just fucking awesome. I have so much to say that there aren't any words;
Oh, brother, I can’t, I can’t get through
I’ve been trying hard to reach you
Cause I don’t know what to do
Oh, brother, I can’t believe it’s true
I’m so scared about the future
And I want to talk to you
Oh, I want to talk to you
You could take a picture of something you see
In the future where will I be
You could climb a ladder up to the sun
Or write a song nobody had sung
Or do something that’s never been done
Are you lost or incomplete
Do you feel like a puzzle
You can’t find your missing piece
Tell me how you feel
Well, I feel like they’re talking in a language I don’t speak
And they’re talking it to me
So you don’t know where you’re going
And you want to talk
And you feel like you’re going where you’ve been before
You'll tell anyone who’ll listen but you feel ignored
And nothing’s really making any sense at all
Let’s talk, let’s talk
Let’s talk, let’s talk
....
You need to hear the song. FIND OUT. Go download or something! You won't regret it. I promise. End rant.
Alternatively! I'm looking for music!
( Possible music to be pimped out? )
Done. Going to put up Christmas decorations. Ho Hum.
OMFG!
