important announcement

so. i finished my exams today. i'm no longer a student. today had been a day of celebration.

2 hours ago i got a call from my housemate telling me our house had been robbed. they kicked the front door in, stole all our laptops and cameras and external harddrives.

dave and i taxied up just as the police arrived. my room was trashed, drawers opened and stuff everywhere. they'd even pulled my bed out so they could take the power supply for my laptop.

of all the stuff that they took, my pillowcases, my camera, my laptop and my harddrive, it's the harddrive i'm devestated about. my life was on there: the old 3GSL stuff, conversations with people for the past 5 years, my entire university folder, all 60 gigs of music and my art folder, filled with all 20 gigs of my memories, my photos.

i've stopped crying now. we've done what we can. the police are informed and luckily one of our neighbours thinks he saw the guys that robbed us. Because one of them was carrying a pillowcase that looked like it had a laptop inside. fucking suspicious or what.

so there's a description out and a report filled.

that doesn't mean much though. it doesn't change the fact our door was kicked off it's hinges. it doesn't change the fact that they've taken memories away from me. it doesn't change the fact that i walked into my room and felt violated. they went through my drawers. they overturned my stuff.

i'm at dave's now. i couldn't sleep there tonight. i checked my insurance policy for my camera. it doesn't cover being stolen. awesome. although mama denvir has told me theoretically my laptop should be covered by her insurance as it's technically hers.

i keep thinking. my poor housemates. whilst my work is over, the 4 of them have major exams on friday and exams all next week. fuck.

my suggestion is this.

i've lost so much of my memories with you lot. i've lost music shared and photographs and stories we've shared.

i'd like to ask, if people would be kind enough, for people to make me cds or dvds of stuff. photos. music. stories. anything, to help me regain some of what i lost. and regain some new things in the process.

would people be interested in helping?

even just...just talk to me. send me messages. i just feel. wrong.

Oh wow, Kat. I am so sorry. I know that being robbed isn't just scary for losing things, but a sense of security. :((( I really, really hope that the police are able to track down the guys who robbed you and get your stuff back, but I also just want you to feel safe and better again. Kat I... words can't say how horrified I feel for you right now. my harddrive broke and I cried for days... you've actually had it taken from you... along with everything else >.<

I can do my best to help you regain music and things. did you have a last.fm account so you can be reminded of verious musics and things you'll want back? but I can definitely help with Jpops or at least some (as mentioned, my harddrive broke -.-)

I don't know if it's much consolation... but at least you have your lj posts, you DA account and facebook - that should have a fair amount kept for you, right?

also, Salad keeps all her photos ever so she may have some stuff like that for you :)

Klena, I am so sorry about this. I can't even begin to imagine how horrible and invasive this must feel, and I hope this is resolved quickly and for the best. Donnie told me about it this morning and it's been on my mind since. I think he and I should start putting some stuff together, either on CDs or another format, to help you find some comfort. Fuck, that's awful. D: I hope the police manages to return your stuff. That feeling of bereavement is really horrible - I had my computer crash on me once, and it had just a fuckton of chats, RP, writing and music that I loved. :(

You know I keep pretty much everything RPG-related since "you never know if you'll need it later", so I can very much help there. It's all backed up on the external drive connected to the computer I'm using now, so it's accessible, even. Archives, art, photos, etc. I still have all the music I've given you if you need any of it again, I'm pretty sure.

Sounds like some assholes knew that students would be too busy with final exams and celebrating the end of term to be home much this week. They probably have hit other places too, not just this term but other terms, which will make them easier to track. Have everyone do a sort of Neighbourhood Watch-type thing, looking out for suspicious types.

And keep an eye out for any electronics that fit the description of the stolen ones, on places like Craigslist's UK listings (I read an article just a few weeks ago about someone finding their stolen property on Craigslist, and an arrest was made!), eBay, any other site where classified ads are posted, and any local shops that deal in used electronics. If they're local enough to know how the school schedules work, chances are they don't go very far to sell their ill-gotten gains.

It's been fucking horrible Fran. I keep thinking about images I want to show Dave or photos I wanted to work on and stuff and I just...they're not there any more. Especially my Emilie Autumn photos, which I didn't have saved anywhere but my harddrive :(

I think I might have one? i should probably look into that. I've also been going through the fanmix communities and saving mixes to be downloaded at a later date.

I've still got a fair amount but they're all reduced sizes and quality which makes me sad. But you're very right about that.

I have never been more appreciative of your digital packrat ways. And, as I've said to you, anything and everything is pretty much where I stand right now.

The issue with the robbery is that they took the one opportunity they had. I can't stress how rare it is for all of us to be out on one night. Also, because of the summer, I think there weren't any lights on when the last guy left so :(

You've actually mentioned something my mate Sara also brought up. She works for a computer/electronic exchange shop so we've passed some details onto her, hoping for a bit of luck.

Meanwhile, if there's any chance of critical stuff like banking info, passwords, etc. on any of those drives, get on top of things without delay!

I changed my passwords pretty quickly, although it might still sign into AIM or MSN automatically? So if you see me online, then it's not me?

I don't have a credit card or things like that, so I'm pretty safe in that respect. The only time I've used a card on this laptop was my housemates card to book tickets home and that was on off.

In conclusion: keep an eye out for me on AIM/MSN? 'Cause that isn't me.

I've been getting on AIM through webchat, but it's very unreliable and hardly worth using. Dunno if MSN has a webchat. I'll keep an eye out for you, whatever I manage to get logged into!
